Our family is keeping you all in our prayers. I had the privilege of meeting Chadd a few times when he attended Naomi’s field trips. Often the only dad there in the class. Felicia, Naomi and Gatlin, my heart goes out to all of you during this unimaginable time.

Chadd was the first person I met and worked with when I first started with our employer 15 years ago. Having started there shortly before I did and much younger than I was, he had a way of making someone feel welcome and confident in a new and unfamiliar environment. A characteristic that very few people these days possess.

During our first few months, we shared fond memories and stories from our past. Chadd was just that easy to talk to and someone impartial you could confide in. We later learned that we didn’t live far from each other, so he invited me to some of his favorite local fishing holes. We would sit there on that bank casting for hours, without a bite in site. I’d like to think he was always done long before I was, but Chadd wasn’t one to reel his line in, until you were.

Over the years, our careers would lead us down our own separate paths. We still ran into each other from tike to time at the plant and would give each other the ole’ nod. But what I would give for one more hour of conversation and fishing on that bank with him, cannot be quantified. He will be missed by me and anyone else that knew him.

I just recently got to know Chadd very well. He trained me on my current job at Berry and signed me off about a month ago. His spirit was contagious in the workplace. Just from the short time I got to know him I learned he truly loved his family. They were his life! He was such an asset to Berry and my new work group. He will truly be missed. Praying for all the family and dear friends.

For 15 years Chadd and I have worked side by side, we were on different shifts but every move we made within the company seemed to happen at the same time. Being on opposing shifts we would only really see each other when we worked overtime and he would always joke that we should “make plans that will never happen”. He had a way of making everyone feel completely comfortable and making everyone he met into a friend.

Chadd was kind, caring, empathetic, dependable, and had integrity in everything that he did. When it came to work, no matter what job he had, he made himself indispensable. You would be hard pressed to find anyone to say a negative word about him. As a husband and father, they were his world. Whether it was building that swimming pool for Felicia and the kids, taking Naomi to a cheer event, or taking the kids hunting/ fishing, his family was always his number one priority. And as a friend he was simply irreplaceable. He always had time to listen and always had sound advice to give that was way beyond his years. He was all of these things and so much more. Chad was the very definition of a role model.

I am a better person for having known him and consider my self blessed to call him my friend. Chad Smith was without a doubt one of the most outstanding human beings that I have ever had the pleasure of knowing and am going to miss him dearly,
