I grew up on LI and Gary was my neighbor. David was friends with my decesised brother Edward and I use to babysit Diane, not that she would remember me. We reconnected on FB not too long ago when he was fighting this horrible disease. I lost my father to cancer 25 years ago when he was 65 so I can relate. He sent me a picture that he said he has kept on his desk for years and didn’t quite know why. It was a picture of him, David, my brother Edward who is decesised, Robert Alford and another friend of David and Ed,named Michael. That picture meant alot to me.
I am so sorry for Garry’s passing and know he is at peace. My condolences to his faimily.

I would like to share my story of Gary (I am not able to attend his funeral):

I have known Gary for about five years through the CB Hockey League for the old guys like us.

I think this moment was my all-time favourite.

I remembered playing with him on the RED CB Team one night and wondered why Gary kept skating so close to me. Every time I made a turn to skate up ice I would bump into Gary(we are on the same team, now) it was like three or four times that game.

I was behind the net digging for the loose puck and I looked up and find myself fighting for the loose puck and it was me and Gary (remember we are on the same team!) digging hard.

I told him to “Get in front of the net”….he went and I fed him the puck and he shoveled the puck through the late Jim Goldstein’s goalie pads and scored! The place went quiet as if everything was in slow motion. Gary’s eyes were wide open(I think he surprised himself!!) Then he smiled.

Gary loved hockey. We talked often about the game, about life…and about hockey again.

I will miss playing with him and against him in the CB league. I am lucky; I got the chance to know him. God Bless #47 Forever.

Gary was a great person and friend. Every Christmas, our office would have a Christmas party for all our patients. Gary would DJ the Christmas parties with music and entertainment. He would dress in costume and make everybody laugh. Gary was so fun, he knew how to make a great party. Gary loved playing ice hockey and he would always play fair. He was a special person. I miss you, Gary.

I knew Gary through the CB Hockey league in Nashville, and what I do know, is Gary Williams was a kind soul, loved people, loved hockey, enjoyed great conversation and if you met him, you were considered a friend. Rob Butters organized zoom chats during these quarantine times, and they all included a breath of fresh air every time Gary joined in. We truly all got much joy and respect for Gary and his strength as he shared his battled with Cancer. Gary you will truly be missed. Rest in Peace and Prayers to the Williams family, friends and all who knew him. Much Love.

Gary has been involved in the hockey community for 25+ years in Nashville. As a dad, coach and player. He always brought a positive attitude and was a great example to others. He also helped me through a very tough time and went above and beyond as my divorce attorney. I remember one of his first games back after his 1st battle with cancer he scored on a nice shot and both teams celebrated. My heart goes out to Lucy, Dave and the rest of the family.

Gary – was just a very special person – kind, thoughtful, fun-loving and a fierce competitor on the ice. All of us in the CB hockey league were pulling so hard for Gary to win this battle with cancer. Our league will not be the same without Gary. It’s a brotherhood and anytime we lose a member, it hurts deeply. Sending peace and love to Lucy and Gary’s entire family.

Stick tap for my friend and teammate of almost 20 years #47 Gary Williams who left us far too early. Gary, you will be remembered as a warrior both on and off the ice. Your locker room stories, your kind words, your fierce competitor self will be missed but never forgotten. I know you are in a better place, but it still hurts. Here’s to lacing them up again where there is no more sickness brother! Lucy, David, and family, you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Really sorry we won’t be able to attend.
I always admired Gary & Lucy when I would walk into the rink and see Lucy cheering him on and Gary smiling and winking back. You could feel the love.
Like I said before, this is a tough one to understand.

David, my Blue team teammate, always spoke highly of Gary. Brotherly love for sure.

Kelly & I send our prayers to everyone who was involved In Gary’s life.

    Stay Strong my friends.

The first time that I met Gary was at a Fogbee Spin session at the YMCA. I walked in, he looked up, greeted me introduced himself asked my name and then introduced me to everyone in the room. He played great music for us and he took requests. He was a strong cyclist but would drop off of the lead pack to help anyone who may have fallen off of the pace…many times that was myself. He was a kind welcoming person with bright eyes and an easy smile. I call him a Brother from a different Mother. Love to Lucy and all who knew and cared for Gary.

I was lucky enough to have met Gary when he first moved to this area when he was fresh out of law school. He practiced in Hendersonville with Missy Branham, a friend from Memphis. He was smart, thoughtful and a fine lawyer. More importantly, he was a wonderful person. Gary was always fun to be around and he earned respect and admiration from all who came to know him. He will be missed by many, many people.

Gary was my Criminal Defense Attorney for atleast 6 years. Im going to keep this short but he helped me on so many levels!! The Da tried to put me away a few times and Gary never backed down even with my lengthy record. He said he believed in me. Today I haven’t been in trouble in over 15 years. 5 time felon with a passport and 3 successful business’s. Any time I think about him to this day I get a calming feeling. I owe a lot of this to Gary. Gary ” was” class!! RIP Gary and Thank You!!!!

I got to know Gary as a member in the Nashville CB Hockey league. I have not met many who had a passion for the sport of hockey, more than Gary did. I’ll never forget when Gary made his comeback about a year ago, in his first game he came down the wing with the puck, I was defending against him. I was keeping him on the outside; he took a look up to the net a took a perfect wrister just past my elbow and went over the goalies right shoulder, into the top corner of the net. Like he hadn’t been off from hockey at all. We were all so excited for him on the ice, but none more excited as Lucy and Gary. And for the past 5 months we have had our weekly “Virtual Tavern” conf calls. Gary would give us updates, and also pass on incredible advice that meant so much to all of us. He’d put such great perspective on things. We’re all better people for knowing Gary. Rest in Peace and Prayers to the Williams family, friends and all who knew him.

Like Gary, I have been playing over 30 years in the CB Hockey League. Players in this league have formed sort of a ‘brotherhood” and aside from the competition on the ice (and yes, sometimes fierce), everyone remains friends. The last few years, I had the pleasure of playing with Gary on the same team and got to know him a little better. He was a great guy and teammate, with a big heart and a little humor mixed in between. Gary also had a competitive spark with his brother (you know all brothers do), as David played on an apposing team. I’m sure trash talk and side bets were forthcoming during the campaign, as who would end up with the most points by the end of the season. Gary will be missed by us CB’rs for sure. Thoughts and prayers to Lucy, David and their families. God bless.
