René Hazlewood Bracey, age 61, passed away on Sunday, May 1st, 2022 at home with her family in Hendersonville, Tennessee after a long and valiant battle with cancer. René was, above all, relentlessly devoted to her family. Her greatest strength was the way she invited friends and strangers alike into her home and made them feel like they belonged there. She kept her pantry stocked, doors unlocked, and arms open for anyone who needed her, and over the years many people found comfort and belonging in her presence.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Charles Bracey; daughter Maggie Bracey Sneed (Chase Sneed); son Cory Thomas Bracey (Lexus Lambert); and her two grandchildren, Jack Byrns Sneed and Lily René Sneed.
A memorial service to celebrate Rene’s life will be held at 2pm on the afternoon of Friday, May 6, 2022 at Hendersonville Funeral Home. Visitation will take place two hours prior to the start of the service from 12pm-2pm at Hendersonville Funeral Home.
René graduated from Stratford High School in 1978, and married Chuck, her husband of 42 years, in 1981. She went on to welcome her two beloved children, Maggie and Cory, into the world in 1988 and 1991, respectively. Her greatest joy was being a grandmother to her two grandchildren, Jack and Lily. René will always be remembered for her warm and welcoming spirit, her sharp humor, and her abundant capacity to love others. In her final years, when faced with the devastating diagnosis of Stage 4 bladder cancer, she bravely chose treatment after treatment to allow for more time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. Her legacy of welcoming and loving others and celebrating even the simplest joys in life will live on through her family and all who knew and loved her.
