Anne S. Petty, age 81, of Jackson, Tennessee passed away on October 5, 2023 after a brief illness. She was born on May 1, 1942, in Jackson, Tennessee to the late James A. Smith, Jr. and Mary Jane McMurtry Smith. 

Anne was raised in Humboldt, Tennessee. During her high school years at Humboldt High School, Anne played basketball. After high school, Anne pursued higher education at UT Martin, where she graduated with a degree in accounting. Anne dedicated over 20 years of her life to being a devoted housewife and mother in Hendersonville, Tennessee. She took great pride in creating a warm and loving home for her family. She later retired from Macy’s Department Store where she made many cherished friends.

Anne enjoyed being outdoors and gardening. She also had a great love for all sports and was an avid reader. 

In addition to her parents, Anne is preceded in death by her brother, James Ned Smith; and sister, Nancy Carol Buchanan.

Anne is survived by her daughter, Lisa McMurtry (Greg) of Hendersonville, Tennessee; son, Donald Gene Petty, Jr. (Monica) of St. Petersburg, Florida; sister, Joyce Grundon (Rick) of Baldwin City, Kansas; brother, Buddy Smith of Humboldt, Tennessee; grandchildren, Allison McMurtry, Curtis Petty, and Rachel Petty; and great grandchildren, Ohna and Bradleigh.  She was a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews as well.

As we mourn the loss of Anne, let us also celebrate the extraordinary life she lived. May she rest peacefully in eternal serenity, forever loved and never forgotten.

A private graveside service will be held in Humboldt, Tennessee at a later date. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Anne’s name to Alive Hospice.
