Surrounded by her family, Barbara Jo Sperlich passed away on June 4, 2020 at her home in Hendersonville, Tennessee.
Barbara was born September 10, 1937 in Nashville, Tennessee to Felix Byrd and Frances Engel. Barbara attended Belmont University, where she majored in Music. There, she met Carlton Sperlich, whom she was married to for fifty-seven years, and together, they had three sons. A lifelong educator, Barbara was a retired second grade teacher with a deep love for children. In her free time, she enjoyed playing and teaching piano, sewing, gardening, and being with her friends and family. A strong Christian woman, Barbara was a member of First Baptist Church in Hendersonville, Tennessee and enjoyed singing in the church choir and traveling.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Carlton; her sons, Brent (Donnita), Chris (Kristi), and David (Michelle) Sperlich; her grandchildren, Jenni (Gene) Bedell, Blake, Brycen, Riley, and Carly Sperlich; and her great-grandchildren, Bennett, John Asher, and Esther Bedell. She is also survived by her brother, Richard Byrd.
Barbara is preceded by her parents, Felix and Frances, and her brother, William Byrd.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held Tuesday, June 9, from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. and Wednesday, June 10, from 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at Hendersonville Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will begin Wednesday, June 10, at 12:00 P.M. with interment in Hendersonville Memory Gardens to follow. While services are public, the staff asks on behalf of the family that all be mindful of others because of COVID-19.
In lieu of flowers, the staff also asks on behalf of the family that donations be made to Alive Hospice (http://www.alivehospice.org).
