In 1957, he was among the first group of people hired at Nashville's Ford Glass Plant. He was a proud UAW member, and early on, he was a standout shortstop for Ford's championship-winning softball team. He worked at the company throughout his career before retiring in 1988 (31 yrs). Spending the bulk of his retirement in Columbia, SC, he was a faithful member of White Knoll Baptist Church where he also served as Trustee.
