Bernadette Ferrell

Bernadette Ford Ferrell, age 80, passed away on June 5, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of strength, devotion, and love for her family.

Born on January 16, 1946, in Nashville, Tennessee, Bernadette was the daughter of a proud Tennessee family and a lifelong resident at heart of the city she loved. She graduated from East Nashville High School in 1964 and soon began a remarkable career that reflected her determination and pioneering spirit.

Bernadette started her career with AT&T in Utica, New York, before transferring back to Nashville, where she continued her work in telecommunications. At a time when opportunities for women in technical positions were limited, she became one of the first women to enter the operations technician field following changes that opened those roles to women. Through hard work, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to excellence, she earned the respect of her colleagues and supervisors alike. She later continued her career with BellSouth, where she received numerous awards and recognition for her accomplishments before retiring at the young age of 50. Her family admired the courage and determination she displayed while succeeding in what had long been considered a “men-only” profession.

On April 15, 1988, Bernadette married William “Billy” Ferrell, the love she had searched for all her life. Together they built a beautiful life founded on friendship, respect, and unconditional love. They were true partners in every sense of the word, sharing life’s joys, challenges, and adventures side by side.

Outside of work, Bernadette found great happiness in the simple pleasures of life. She enjoyed scrapbooking, traveling to Florida, and sharing lunches and laughter with her close friends. She especially treasured attending her grandchildren’s school events, concerts, and activities, never missing an opportunity to support and celebrate them.

A woman of deep faith, Bernadette was a devoted member of the Catholic community. Her faith guided her throughout her life and provided strength and comfort to those around her.

While her family holds countless cherished memories of Bernadette, Christmas Eve at her home stands out as a treasured tradition. Christmas was her holiday—a time when she delighted in gathering family around her table, filling her home with warmth, laughter, and love. An exceptional cook, she was known for preparing delicious Southern-style meals that brought everyone together and made each gathering unforgettable.

Bernadette is preceded in death by her husband, William “Billy” Ferrell; her sons, Jason Destry Ritchie and James Derek Ritchie; her granddaughter, Riley Nicole Ritchie; her parents, Anna Marie White and William Stacy; and her sister, Mary Ann Andrade.

Bernadette is survived by her grandchildren, Jase Ritchie and Reese Ritchie; her daughter-in-law, Nicole Ritchie; her favorite niece, Carmen Holland; and many nieces, cousins and special friends that will remember her fondly.

Visitation for Bernadette will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 from 11 am until 2 pm at Hendersonville Funeral Home (353 E. Main St., Hendersonville, TN 37075). The funeral service will begin at 2 pm at the same location. Burial will follow.
