Bertie Lee Williams, of Hendersonville, passed away on Saturday, March 7th, 2020 at the age of 97. Preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Glenn Williams, parents; Walter Wallin and Amy Christine Winter, daughters; Jackie Sweatman and Christine Williams, granddaughter, Beckie Stepp, 2 sisters and 5 brothers. Survived by her children; Tom Williams (Alida) and Robert Williams (Nancy), son-in-law, Bill Sweatman, 6 grandchildren and 16 grandchildren. Bertie is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

In 1943, a young woman on a career path with Sylvania in Chicago went to lunch and returned to work as a Navy recruit. She served her country honorably, married another Sailor. She was my mother. She and Dad were married for 54 years when he passed away in 1999. Mom went on to establish herself in the corporate world and raised three children who like our Mom and Dad, married for the long-term. Mom was "Grandma Lee" to seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Over the past several years, she was known as "Miss Bertie" to the hundreds of people she served as a volunteer. The past five years were hard on her as she suffered from the effects of A-Fib and respiratory problems. The past year and a half were really tough, but she continued to volunteer weekly. Over the last four and a half months, Mom was in the hospital seven times, rehab for ten days and settled into assisted living five weeks ago. Mom had a great life. She was loved and honored by many for her volunteer work, military service and the ability to make everyone with whom she came in contact be her friend. Mom quietly passed away about 8:00 PM last night, March 7, 2020. She lived 97 years, and in some ways, looked forward to "Going Home". Perhaps the greatest thing she could have done was to leave her family prepared for this day. Today is a day of sadness, but it is also a day of great calm and peace knowing she is not "Lost". We know exactly where she is.

Speaking for the Williams and Sweatman families, "We love you, Mom. Thank you for a great life."
