Betty Phillips

August 3, 1933 — October 23, 2022

Hendersonville, TN.

Betty June (Hunter) Phillips, eighty-nine of Hendersonville, Tennessee went to sleep peacefully in the Lord on October 23, 2022, at her home surrounded by her children.

She was born on August 3, 1933, to Amos and Texie Teague Hunter of Waynesville, North Carolina. Betty married Elmer Phillips on August 24, 1951. They had four children, Kathy, Terry, Genella, and Euel. She worked as a phlebotomist in the laboratory at the Haywood County Hospital until her retirement.  Betty was a member of the Gallatin, Tennessee Seventh-day Adventist Church. She and Elmer were faithful members of the church for over 60 years. Aunt Betty, as she was known by her nieces and nephews, is remembered for her kind heart and her gentle words. She never overlooked anyone and made it a practice to remember birthdays and Christmas gifts. She had a genuine love for others and reached out to her neighbors. She had a heart for God's smaller creatures too. She rescued dogs, cats and even a

pot-bellied pig. One year, she adopted a warty toad she named Bennett who lived in a little ceramic house on the deck. Bennett returned several years to his home under her watchful eye.

Betty is survived by her children: Kathy Tyler of Crossville, Tennessee, Terry Phillips of Ringgold, Georgia and GeneIla Hoover of Hendersonville, Tennessee, her thirteen grandchildren: Jereme, Nathan, Jonathan, Mandy, Amy, Valarie, Daniel, Adelina, Mason, Marlena, Sarah, John and Lilly, her great grandchildren: Gallen, Seth, Caleb, Hannah, Kezzia, Sydney and Martin. Her surviving siblings are Sarah Frances (Tiny) Phillips, and Larry Phil Hunter. She was preceded in death by her parents; Amos and Texie Hunter, husband; Elmer Phillips; her son, Euel; her granddaughter Valerie and her siblings, Jack, GeneIla, Harold, Julius, and Marlene.
