Carolyn “Nannie” Ruth Sanders
Nannie was born in Nashville, Tennessee on March 21, 1945. Passed away peacefully, at home, on January 19, 2026 at age “80”. Preceded by her loving husband, Maurice “Paw” Sanders and survived by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Nannie spent her early childhood there, later moving to Greensboro, NC with her mother (Ruby) and father (Homer). There she became very dear friends with a young girl named Tony. They grew up to be the best of friends and would remain in contact with each other, till Tony’s death. Her first dog was a Boston terrier named Mitzi. Like many girls, back then, she adored Elvis Presley’s music. Well, Elvis too. Nannie returned to Tennessee, in the mid-late 60’s, with her parents and three children. Then came a poodle named Blossom. A few years later, 1974, she married the love of her life, Maurice Wayne Sanders. Lovingly known as “Paw”. Nannie and Paw built a life together and touched many lives along the way. One of their favorite things to do were road trips, exploring our beautiful United States of America. Their favorite place was Gatlinburg Tennessee, which is where they spent their honeymoon. Their second favorite was Williamsburg, Virginia. Nannie worked in the grocery business, which is where she met the love of her life. Spending most of her time in the bakery section doing her favorite things, decorating cakes and making pies. She even made pies for Charlie Daniels. During baseball season, especially close to the playoffs, you’d find both Nannie and Paw watching the Atlanta Braves. Something Nannie continued to do after Paw passed away.
Those of you that have had the “privilege” to have Nannie in your lives, in some way, shape or form, know firsthand the impact this lady has left on your heart.
