Mrs. Charlene Gaitens, age 89, of Hendersonville TN, passed away on October 17,2026. She was born in Joppa, IL on June 5, 1937 to the late Charles and Wava Taylor. She was raised in Metropolis Illinois.

She was a loving and adventurous person who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She had a special love for country music but enjoyed listening to all sorts of music. She enjoyed staying active through sports, swimming, and golf. Having grown up water skiing, she carried her adventurous spirit throughout her life, even taking up cross-country skiing in her later years. She loved to travel, whether enjoying a day trip close to home or setting sail on a cruise, and was always ready for the next adventure. An avid reader and devoted choir member at her church, she also cherished being involved in her children’s activities and supporting them in all they did. She was a graduate of Metropolis High School in IL and McMurray College. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Mr. James Gaitens; Kelly Miley (David), Gregory Gaitens (Cara), Barbara Green (Kenneth), and Laura Smith; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; sister, Carolyn Kleen; and two nieces, Jamie Bican and Rachel McPheeders. 

Funeral Mass will be held at 11am, November 20, 2026 at Our Lady of the Lake with a luncheon to follow.
