Charles G. Hockenberry

Charles Gregory Hockenberry 80 Years Old Born in Salinas, California on August 19, 1946, to Charles Westley Hockenberry and Dorotha Viola (Gregory) Hockenberry. His 80th birthday began at his earthly home in Gallatin, TN and as he passed this milestone, he made his final journey to begin the ultimate celebration by running into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on August 19, 2026.

Charles attended and graduated from Yuma Union High School in Yuma, AZ. He was a lifelong master meat cutter (he DID NOT like to be called a butcher). He also managed several properties in Yuma; however, he always considered it his greatest accomplishment to be a licensed Pentecostal minister. He had a heart for the rescue mission and a passion for missionary work. Later in life he moved to Tennessee where he worked for Roberts Brothers Coach for several years.

Charles was warmly referred to by his Pennsylvania family as “Greg”, and as “Sprout” by his California family, but all his friends called him Charlie.

Charlie loved working on cars, going to the Sand Dunes and riding his horses. Fishing was his favorite pastime, dragging along anyone he could. He was always up for a game of Dominos with family.

Bowling league night was more about making memories with his dad than it was about the game. He loved playing the guitar in church, but especially the church his mother pastored.

Charles is survived by his two daughters, Carrie Hockenberry Roberts and Charlene Hockenberry (Marie) Mesa. Grandchildren, Gary Jr (Bailie) Roberts, Aaron (Alexys) Roberts, Ryan Roberts, Carah (Felipe) Beltran and Christian Watson. Great Grandchildren, Atley, Ava, Ayden, Ivie, Audrey, Jude, Lestat, Amelia and Armand. Brother, Kenneth Hockenberry and Sister, Candace Hockenberry (George) Rico, Aunt Esther Hockenberry Helm, Stepchildren, Bill (Teresa) Gann, Christine (David) Knolle, Step Grandchildren, Billy Gann, Mikey Gann, Charles “Chucky” Little, Dusty Williams and Amber Roman. He was also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Charles is preceded in death by his wife Ada “Penny” Hockenberry, mother of Bill, David and Christine. Charles was previously married to the late Florence Jean Hockenberry, mother of Carrie and Charlene. Sister, Barbara (Hockenberry) Whittenburg, Stepson David Gann, Grandson Matthew Williams, and Stepgrandson, Brent Roman.
