Our dear Christine Ann Smotherman passed away on May 26th, 2026 at the age of 67. She is preceded in death by her mother Elaine Coates, and brother William Coates III. She is survived in life by her loving husband of 47 years Terry Smotherman, her son David Smotherman, daughter-in-law Katie Smotherman, daughter Samantha Acerbis (Smotherman), son-in-law Todd Acerbis, grandchildren Logan Smotherman, Rhiannon Smotherman, Darik Freeland, and Daisy Smotherman, her sister Charlotte Solomon, and her two brothers Patrick Coates and Robert Coates. In addition, Christine leaves behind a full extended family.

Christine, known affectionately as Chris, was born on September 25th, 1958 in her hometown of Flint, Michigan. She was the youngest daughter of her family of 5 children. She was a graduate from Flint Central High School. After moving her family to Hendersonville Tennessee, Christine later obtained her associate’s degree from Volunteer State Community College located in Gallatin, Tennessee.

Christine was a proud Army veteran, before she was honorably discharged in order to begin her family, which was the pride of her life. Christine loved crocheting, spending the majority of her free time creating blankets and other creations filled with her love to be enjoyed by her family and friends. She loved watching Jeopardy with her grandchild Darik every weekday at 5:00PM sharp, and spending time with her youngest grandchild Daisy whenever she was able. She was our matriarch, our shining star, and our leader. Her spirit was full of so much warmth, joy, and love.

Christine was an avid member of her church GodWhy. Christine enjoyed giving back to her community in any way she could and would spend her winter months baking loaves of bread which were given to the Humane Society to be sold for donations.

Christine’s memorial of life will be held Friday May 29th from 10am-12pm at Hendersonville Memorial Gardens located at 353 E Main Street, Hendersonville, TN 37075.
