Dorene Gage

Dorene Viola Gage, age 88, of Cottontown passed away on April 8, 2026. Dorene was born on May 21, 1937 to the late Neil and Viola Burton in Eureka, California.

Dorene was a devoted member of her Presbyterian faith, which guided her life with quiet strength and grace. She attended Long Beach Polytechnic High School, where she first nurtured the curiosity and creativity that would remain with her throughout her life. She held a deep appreciation for the arts, especially ceramics and interior design, and found joy in creating beauty and warmth in her surroundings.

Dorene was a proud member of the Porsche Club of America, where she and her beloved husband, Ray, were active in their local chapter. Together, they shared a passion for the Porsche 356 that Ray restored, often sourcing parts and building lasting friendships through the club.

She was a devoted wife who cherished her family above all else, taking immense pride in her children and grandchildren. Dorene also carried great pride in her roots as the daughter of a commercial fisherman, a heritage that shaped her values of hard work and resilience.

Professionally, Dorene was dedicated to her role as a receptionist and PBX operator at Maybelline Cosmetics, where she was known for her reliability and warm presence. Thoughtful and considerate, she touched the lives of many with her kindness, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Dorene found great joy in music, especially the timeless songs of Tony Bennett, Kenny G, and the compositions of David Foster. She had a fondness for Mexican cuisine and would occasionally savor a margarita in good company. Following her retirement, Dorene and her beloved Ray spent cherished years traveling together in their RV, exploring the beauty of the United States and Mexico and visiting many of the country’s most breathtaking natural sites.

In addition to her parents, Dorene is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Ray Gage.

Dorene is survived by her children, Sherry Little, Steve Gage (Yvonne), and Scott Gage (Whitney); her grandchildren, Michelle Little, Daniel Little, Austin Gage, Bella Gage, Gracyn Gage, and Hanes Gage; and her brother, Don Burton. 

Visitation for Dorene will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026 from 10 - 11 am at Hendersonville Funeral Home (353 E. Main St., Hendersonville, TN 37075). A Celebration of Life Service will start at 11 am at the same location.
