Dr. Fredrick Ernest Albert Johnson was born September 3, 1936 in Alliance, Nebraska. He joined his Christian family and friends in Heaven November 17, 2020, a reunion made possible by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was preceded by his parents Fredvick and Corinne Johnson and brother Charles Myron Johnson.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years Patsy Johnson and daughters Melony (Tommy) Allen and Connie (Karl) Rogers; grandson Carter Thomas Frederick Allen and granddaughters Kathryn Rogers, Rose (Andrew) Corbett, Lauren (Steve) Smith and Michelle Rogers; great grandchildren Ella Corbett and Andrew Corbett, Jr.
Dr. Johnson attended elementary and secondary schools in Rochester and Rye, New York. He graduated from West End High School in Nashville, Tennessee where he played football and baseball. He ran track and boxed at Duke University.
He received his undergraduate degree from Scarritt College before receiving his Masters from Vanderbilt Divinity School, and a Doctorate of Divinity at the Universal Bible Institute. He had the privilege to pastor in the Methodist denomination for 13 years and 49 years as pastor in the Southern Baptist denomination including 25 years at Grace Baptist Church in Nashville, Tennessee where upon retirement he was elected Pastor Emeritus. Dr. Johnson was a co- founder of Davidson Academy. He was on the Board of Trustees at Belmont College and the American Baptist Seminary. He was President of the Nashville Baptist Ministers Conference and held many offices in the Nashville Baptist Association.
He also served 26 years as Chaplain in the Tennessee Army and Air National Guard and completed his service as a full Colonel.
