Edna Louise McNeal Barnes, 87, of Greenbrier, Tennessee died early Wednesday morning, September 21, 2022, peacefully at home surrounded by family. She was born June 4, 1935 in Hebbertsburg, Tennessee to the late Sterling & Maggie Headrick McNeal.
Edna was the loving wife of the late Charles Ray Barnes, whom she married In March 1957. To this union was born three sons Danny, Michael and Dale, and if you ask any of them, they would tell you that she believed what the Bible says in Proverbs 13:14, “spare the rod, spoil the child.” She did not hesitate to use the rod, yet she loved her boys dearly and knew they could do anything, and they proved her right. She was “Ma” to Sean, Kaytee and Sarah. Edna loved her family dearly. So many nieces and nephews thought of her as a second mom. She was known for her encouraging words, green thumb and great cooking. She loved her Millersville Church of Christ family so much that when she was no longer able to drive, she insisted that her car stay parked under the carport where she could see it and get to it rain or shine, because she was going to church as soon as she felt better. She loved opening her mail to find all the cards sent by her church family. She attended school in Hebbertsburg and was later a homemaker. In her last days, she called upon the Lord for the comfort she needed. Her faith never faltered.
Edna Louise Barnes is also preceded in death by her son Michael Barnes. She is survived by her sons Danny Barnes and Dale Barnes; grandchildren Sean (Machaela) Miller, Kaytee Barnes and Sarah (Scott) Nidiffer; great-grandchildren Reece Miller and Delaney Miller; as well as her niece, Sue O’ Banion, and second great-grandniece, Hope O’ Banion.

Her ashes will be interred at Nashville National Cemetery with her husband. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.
