Evelyn Janelle "Janelle" Gambrell, age 96, of Hendersonville, Tennessee, passed away on July 6, 2026.
Born on November 7, 1929, in Goodlettsville, Tennessee, Janelle was the daughter of the late Henry Hardcastle and Mabel Dalton. She was a devoted member of Hendersonville Church of Christ for 65 years, where her faith was an important part of her life.
On March 11, 1949, she married the love of her life, James Clifford Gambrell. They shared 39 wonderful years of marriage until his passing in 1988.
Janelle attended beauty school before dedicating herself to her family as a homemaker. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life and was especially talented with her hands. She loved gardening and was skilled in many forms of needlework, including sewing, knitting, embroidery, crochet, and quilting. She also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends.
She was an active member of the Hendersonville Garden Club, the Hendersonville Home Demonstration Club, and the VFW Post 9851 Auxiliary, where she formed many lasting friendships through the years.
In addition to her parents, Janelle was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Gambrell; and her sons, James O. Gambrell and Mark A. Gambrell.
Janelle is survived by her daughter, Theresa Wilson; her grandchildren, William “B.J.” Gambrell, Clifford Gambrell, Debra Gambrell, Jennifer Matthews, Virginia Harmond, James Gambrell, and Julie Van Dike; her great grandchildren, Jessica Wilson, Jordan Wilson, Addyson Matthews, Oliver Gambrell, Wyatt Gambrell, Lily Gambrell, Alexander Bernard, and Lucas Bernard; her brother, Eugene Dalton; and her step great grandchildren, Gabe Harmond, Jackson Harmond, Roxanne Alexander, and Matthew Bernard.
Janelle will be remembered for her gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and the love she shared with her family, friends, and all who knew her. Her kindness, creativity, and dedication to those she loved will be cherished and remembered always.
A graveside service for Janelle will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026 at 11 am at Hendersonville Memory Gardens (353 E. Main St., Hendersonville, TN 37075).
