Irene Virginia (Galus) Grissop, age 94, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 1, 2020. She lived a full & independent life. She was born in Bay City, MI, & as a young woman moved to Detroit. She enjoyed playing softball & attending dances. During WWII she worked for Chrysler to support the war effort. In 1951, she married Tom Grissop, her husband of 64 years. They remained in Detroit until retirement when they moved to Hendersonville, TN. Irene worked as a manager of a Sanders Candy Store & then later for a bakery & in catering. She was a wonderful cook & loved to bake. Many will recall her homemade apple pies, banana breads & holiday cookies. Irene also loved to travel with her family, whether it be camping, attending her spouse's army reunions or seeing someplace new. She has been to over a dozen countries. Other hobbies included bowling, shopping, card games & Yahtzee. She loved Halloween & was known for her creative costumes. She enjoyed spending time with family & attended many a grandchild's sporting event or school function. She was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, VFW Ladies Auxiliary & Hendersonville Senior Center. She had a keen sense of humor, creative spirit & generous soul. She will be greatly missed.

She is preceded in death by her husband Thomas Grissop, parents Joseph & Stanaslava Galus, brothers Joseph, Raymond, & Carl Galus & Sister Rita (Galus) Greskowiak. She leaves behind son Jeffrey (Odell) Grissop, & daughter Bonnie (Bob) Grissop-O'Berry. She will be missed by her grandchildren Jason & Kamal Grissop, Thomas & Collin O'Berry, Jason, Jamie & Reshma Cole, her nine great-grandchildren, her sister Rose (Galus) O'Regan & multiple nieces, nephews & friends.

A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Hendersonville Funeral Home at 11am Friday, September 11, 2020. Interment will follow at the National Cemetery in Madison at 1pm.
