James Robert Dixon, 79, of Hendersonville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully and was received into heaven on Wednesday, October 28, 2026. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Joan Dixon; his son, Jim Dixon (Stacy); his daughters, Annie Koch (Brian) and Elizabeth Dewey; his cherished grandchildren, Avery Hays (Tanner), Emily Fixari (Beau), Marcus Dixon, Rachel Koch, Grant Koch, Claire Koch, Josie Dewey, James Wayne Dewey, and Hannah Dewey; and his great-granddaughter, Scottie Hays. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Virginia Fogle Dixon, and his brother, William Dixon.
Jim was born in Columbus, Ohio, on November 21, 1946. After graduating North high school, he attended The Ohio State University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Science. A dedicated worker with a strong entrepreneurial spirit, Jim began his career as an educator before founding a service to match teachers with school systems in need. He later joined forces with the creator of Valpakas the second franchisee in the country, helping expand the startup into a nation-wide Coop Direct Mail company and earning numerous accolades throughout his tenure. Following his retirement from Valpak, Jim continued his career as a real estate broker in Tennessee and Ohio, helping countless individuals and families find their homes.
A man of deep faith, Jim was an active member of Hendersonville First Baptist Church, where he served in Vacation Bible School, participated in mission trips, and volunteered at the local food bank. He possessed a generous heart, devoting much of his time and passion to supporting organizations such as the Nashville Rescue Mission and Rescue One Global.
Beyond his devotion to family, faith, and work, Jim was an avid outdoorsman and sports enthusiast who enjoyed fishing, skiing, traveling, hunting, golf, music, and racquetball. His love for fishing—from the rivers of Alaska to the deep seas of the Caribbean—became a cherished tradition he passed down to his children and grandchildren. Affectionately known as "Pa," his infectious laughter brought warmth to every gathering.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Saturday, November 21,2026 at Hendersonville First Baptist Church, located at 106 Bluegrass Commons Blvd., Hendersonville, TN. Visitation will be held from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM, with the funeral service immediately following.
The Twenty Third Psalm
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restores my soul: He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for you are with me; Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me. Thou prepares a table before me in the presence of my enemies: thou anointed my head with oil; my cup runs over: Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
