Jess Walter Huckaby Jr.

Jess Walter Huckaby Jr., affectionately known as Papaw, passed away on October 28, 2025, at the age of eighty. He was born on May 25, 1945, in Memphis, Tennessee. Jess is a proud graduate of Hernando High School and earned an associate's degree at Memphis State University.

Jess had a fulfilling career as an airfreight coordinator for FedEx for forty years, where he was known for his strong work ethic and dedication. He touched many lives with his generous, social, and kind personality. Jess was not only an intelligent and loyal gentleman but also had a great sense of humor that always brought a smile to those around him.

He had many personal hobbies but always dedicated time to his family and friends. He brought his creativity to life by organizing reunions for his graduating class over the years. Jess also enjoyed sharing his musical talent as a drummer and vocalist in a band, bringing joy and connection to those around him.

At home, Jess embraced the simple joys in landscaping, studying history, working on puzzle books, reading, dancing, and singing. Throughout his life, he also loved being able to travel with his family. When his grandsons reached a certain age, Jess planned a special trip to Walt Disney World for each of them that made unforgettable memories they will cherish forever.

Jess is preceded in death by his parents, Jess Walter Huckaby, Sr. and Lillian Mae Huckaby.

He is survived by his loving wife of thirty-seven years, Carol Ann Huckaby; his daughter, Lisa (Randy) Exum; brother, James “Jimmy” Huckaby; grandchildren, Matthew (Shelly) Exum, Jacob (Raffaella) Exum, and Caleb (Jaymie) Exum; and great-grandchildren, Zoey Exum, Lainey Exum, Tino Exum, Juliana Exum, Tony Exum, and Everly Exum.

A Celebration of Life service will be held in his honor on November 15, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Hendersonville Memory Gardens, Funeral Home & Cremation Center, located at 353 E Main St, Hendersonville, TN 37075.
