John D. Godfrey, Sr., age 86 of Hendersonville passed away peacefully on Friday, October 24, 2014.
Mr. Godfrey was a friendly, fun loving, lively, Christian man. He was an avid sports fan with his favorite teams being UT Vols, Atlanta Braves and Tennessee Titans, He loved cars, animals especially his dog Bud, golfing, fishing, traveling and especially spending time with all his family. He had traveled to many places in his life including Dubai, Las Vegas, Tunica, Lake Tahoe or any body of water being some of his favorites. He truly enjoyed having all the family together for food and entertainment. He was a great man that will be deeply missed.
He was born on April 25, 1928. He was a long time member of Madison First Christian Church and a man everyone loved and had never met a stranger. Mr. Godfrey worked for 40 years at Pittsburgh Testing Lab/PSI and also served his country in the United States Army.
Mr. Godfrey was preceded in death by his wife Mary Catherine Godfrey. He is survived by sons, John D. (Janice) Godfrey, Jr. and Edward W. (Kristine) Godfrey, sisters, Carole (Eugene) Hayden and Sylvia (Robert) Higgins; brother, David Godfrey, grandchildren, Rachel, Hannah, and Kristian and loving companion "Bud". He is also survived by his best friend John Jenkins and several other nieces and nephews and extended family.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 on Tuesday October 28, then again on Wednesday from 11-1pm at Hendersonville Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 1pm on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 in the Chapel of Hendersonville Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Peace officiating.Burial will follow at Hendersonville Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.
