John Hurt, Jr.
John F. (Fred) Hurt, Jr.-age 94 passed away at his home on September 26, 2016.
Fred will forever be remembered for his many wonderful attributes; namely, bravery, kindness, integrity, honor, and congeniality. He was an avid reader who enjoyed poetry, history, and war-related books. On television, he took pleasure in catching a football game and watching Western's. The sounds of our memories are full of the whistle made by his lips. A collector of knives and watches, he was a man who knew genuine craftsmanship and quality. The sounds of country music were his favorite; especially, that of Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Sr., Charlie Pride, and Marty Robbins.
Traveling with his wife was one of the things that brought him the most joy outside of being a loving father to his two children. Spending time with his family was his top priority and holidays were always spent together. These are the memories he forged with us that will live on in those who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Gladys W. Hurt. He is survived by his children, John F. (Rick) Hurt, III and his fiancé Dorthia Barnes, and Julie Asbridge (Russel); grandson, Scott Asbridge; great-grandson, Dylan Asbridge and devoted caregiver, Elizabeth Ann Robinson.
Mr. Hurt was a life-long resident of Hendersonville and co-owner of Hurt's Market for over 40 years. A World War II veteran, he served in the European Theater and took part in the D-Day Invasion. He was one of the founding members of VFW Post 9851 and served as commander several times.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday September 29, 2016 at 11am in Hendersonville Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 from 5pm-8pm and Thursday, September 29, 2016 from 9am-11am at Hendersonville Funeral Home 353 E Main St Hendersonville, TN 37075 615-824-3855 hendersonvillefh.com
