John Walter Ladd

Sep 23, 1947 — Aug 23, 2026

Hendersonville

John Walter Ladd, affectionately known as "John" and "Papa," passed away peacefully on August 23, 2026, at the age of 78. John was born on September 23, 1947, in Madison, Tennessee, to the late Thomas Jackson Ladd Jr. and Susan Lorene Litton Ladd.

John was a proud graduate of DuPont High School and Middle Tennessee State University. He faithfully served his country in the United States Army before dedicating his career to education. A teacher by profession, John's influence extended far beyond the classroom. He had a remarkable gift for connecting with people, often sharing a joke, a story about MTSU, or a piece of wisdom that left a lasting impression on those around him.

His life was defined by service to his country, his family, and his community. Humble, generous, and kindhearted, John was the type of person who quietly noticed the needs of others and stepped in to help without seeking recognition. His faith in Jesus Christ was not merely a belief he held but a truth he faithfully lived each day. Through his actions, he gave freely of himself, leaving people better equipped, better encouraged, and better loved than when he found them.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, John's greatest joy was found in the relationships he shared with those he loved. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, integrity, compassion, and service that will continue to inspire all who knew him.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Jackson Ladd Jr. and Susan Lorene Litton Ladd; his brother, William Thomas Ladd; and his sisters, Margaret Sue Ladd Pollack and Ruth Ann Ladd Spears.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Mary Margaret Fleming Ladd; his son, Robert Brian Ladd; his daughter, Jennifer Ladd White and husband Marcus Wade White; and his cherished grandchildren, Gavin Jackson White, Gabriella Sophia Jewell Ladd, Hunter Thaxton Ladd, and Colin Johnathon White.

Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of John on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Long Hollow Baptist Church in Hendersonville, Tennessee. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m. as loved ones celebrate a life marked by faith, service, and love.
