Mary Alice Bretz, age 42, of Hendersonville passed away on June 8, 2025. Mary Alice was born on July 13, 1982 in Smithville, Tennessee. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and boundless generosity. A loving mother, Mary Alice was known for her ability to fill any room with her enchanting spirit and infectious energy.

Her laughter, often accompanied by a unique snort, served as a bright beacon for those fortunate enough to know her. Friends recall her unselfish nature and the comfort she brought to those around her, making it a joy to spend time in her company. Displaying wisdom beyond her years, Mary Alice approached life with a delightful sense of humor, utilizing her talent for making people laugh to uplift and inspire.

A graduate of Watertown High School, Vol State Community College, and Aquinas College, she exhibited a thirst for knowledge that complemented her lively personality. 

Mary Alice spent her career as a hospice nurse, caring and serving others with grace and compassion. In this sacred role, she brought comfort, dignity, and peace to countless patients and families. Her gentle presence and unwavering empathy left a lasting impact on all who has the privilege of knowing her, embodying true kindness and selflessness in every aspect of her work.

Mary Alice's passion for sports was evident, as she enjoyed following both Vols football and Titans football. Not only did she love cheering for her teams, but she also relished the moments spent with friends, creating cherished memories along the way.

Mary Alice's adventurous spirit led her to experience a thrilling 200-foot bungee cord drop with her son, Kaleb, embodying her zest for life and willingness to embrace new challenges. Her love for simple pleasures, like enjoying a Diet Coke or her favorite spaghetti casserole, speaks to her genuine nature, where every moment was an opportunity to savor happiness.

Her musical tastes were revealed through her affection for "Dixieland Delight," a song that perhaps captures the essence of joy she brought to others. Mary Alice attended Hendersonville First United Methodist Church, where her faith and commitment to community flourished.

Mary Alice is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Jane Stanley.

Mary Alice is survived by her parents, George and Cheryl Bretz; her son, Kaleb Bretz-Bates; her brother, Daniel Stanley; and close friends, Jay and Kasha Rittenberry, Misty Dedmond, Leslie Davis, Lisa Lokey, Anna Cherry, and Joey and Tracy Cowan.

As we gather to honor Mary Alice, her cherished memories will remain alive in our hearts. Friends and family are invited to commemorate her life during the visitation on June 14, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life at 4:00 PM at Hendersonville Memory Gardens, Funeral Home & Cremation Center, located at 353 E Main St, Hendersonville, TN 37075.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hendersonville First United Methodist Church. 

Mary Alice Bretz will be deeply missed, yet her spirit will continue to resonate in the lives she touched and the joy she spread so abundantly.
