Michael Edward Kennedy, born on March 15, 1938, in New York City, passed away at the age of 88 on Sunday April 19th, 2026.
He was beloved by his wife, children, grandchildren, and all who knew him. Michael was kind, friendly and could strike up an affable conversation with anyone. He was a gregarious soul who whistled, sang songs and would take time to speak with anyone, especially someone in need. He cared. He was a man of immense and enduring faith. He loved his wife, children, and his grandchildren.
Michael was an avid sports fan and could spend hours talking about Bob Cousy, the Celtics, Mickey Mantle, and their modern counterparts. He was a proud veteran who earned his jump wings as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne in 1957. He had a calmness of spirit and smile that made people at ease, he was playful and could giggle with the best of them. He loved to laugh.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, and sister, save for his remaining brother Jerry. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Virginia Kennedy, daughter Debra Mikels, and son Michael Kennedy. He is also survived by four wonderful grandchildren, Andrew Russo, Catherine Kennedy, Kathleen Russo, and Kristen Kennedy.
A visitation will be held on Saturday June 6, 2026, at Hendersonville Funeral Home from 12:00pm to 2:00pm. The memorial service will begin at 2:00pm in the chapel of Hendersonville Funeral Home.
