Peggy Ann Bruce West of Gallatin was born on November 22 and raised in East Nashville, lived her adult life in Hendersonville, TN, then Gallatin, and passed away suddenly on June 1, 2019. She is preceded in death by her parents: William Robert Bruce, Sr. and Lela Frances Shoemake Bruce; brothers: William Robert Bruce, Jr., and David Lynn Bruce; sisters: Ruby McPherson Graham, Polly Hoover, Betty Odom and Fay Roy.

She is survived by husband, Walter Lawrence West; daughter Jackie (Chuck) Cowden, son Gary (Julie) West; sisters-in-law: Frances Bruce and Shirley Bruce; grandchildren: Chase (Catherine) Cowden, Weston (Kelly) Cowden, Lauren (Patrick) Anderson, Hunter West, Chad (Sherry) Hutton, Angelo and Nicholas Boone; great-grandchildren: Breck and Greyson Cowden, Asher and Lilia Anderson, Ericka, Everett, Elizabeth and Eli Henry Hutton, Henry Knestrick and dozens of loving nieces and nephews.

Peggy attended East High School in Nashville and was employed at Cooper and Martin Grocery Store before starting her career at Southern Bell as a telephone operator. She grew up attending Shelby Street Baptist Church and later First Baptist Church of Hendersonville. Until her death she enjoyed playing gospel hymns on her piano to the delight of all who heard her. She was an avid duplicate bridge player and had achieved the prestigious level of Silver Life Master. She played weekly at Vanderbilt Bridge Club where she was instrumental in starting the fund- raising campaign for their purchase of the current site and Education Center on White Bridge Road. She also played several times each week with the Hendersonville Bridge Club and was loved and known by all there.

Funeral Services for Peggy will be held on Tuesday June the 4th, at 12:00PM Noon in the Chapel of Hendersonville Funeral Home with interment to follow in Hendersonville Memory Gardens. The family will accept visitors at the funeral home beginning on Monday June 3rd from 4:00PM - 6:00PM. Visitation will continue Tuesday June 4th from 11:00AM until Service time at 12:00PM Noon.

Generous, caring, loving, nurturing and always carrying a smile and a conversation, she will be fondly remembered by all who were blessed and graced by her presence.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to: United Way of Wilson County, CASA of Wilson County, Vanderbilt Bridge Club Education Center (White Bridge Road), Nashville Rescue Mission or a charity of your choice.
