Age 72 of Westmoreland, TN passed away at home surrounded by his family on February 27, 2016.
Richard will forever be remembered for his patience, strength, love of laughter, stubbornness, and his hard-working nature. He was a driven man who "always did things right the first time" and invested himself in his family, friends, and career. Richard was a tremendous teacher who led by example in his daily life. In fact, he taught his children some of life's greatest lessons; to show respect for one's elders, never do things half-hearted, and to take the time to explain things to your children. Skilled with his hands, Richard had the ability to repair just about anything.
During the course of his life in the workforce he labored as a mechanic, HVAC technician, and carpenter; although, that does not exhaust the other areas in which he was equally skilled. He was a man of many talents, who shared his vast knowledge while spending quality time with his children. Richard's gifts to his family will live on in their abilities to build, repair, and maintain their homes and vehicles. On the occasions when Richard was not hard at work he enjoyed taking his family on vacations.
With the sound of the waves crashing into the shore and the sand beneath his feet, he enjoyed the atmosphere of the Florida coastline. The beach was one of Richard's all-time favorite places to rest and relax from his work. Looking back, his favorite holidays were the Fourth of July and Christmas and giving gifts to his family at this time brought him a lot of joy.
Hunting, going to the flea market, and listening to music were some of his hobbies. Though he listened to all kinds of music, country was the genre he enjoyed most often. When recalling a memory of music in his life, it was said that "he had quite the collection of eight track tapes and would play them while driving his Plymouth Fury" which was a big tank. His collections were numerous and he loved various memorabilia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Mary Miller; wife of twenty-plus years, Diane Miller; daughter, Tammy Thacker; and son, Tony Hicks. Richard leaves behind his wife of twenty years, Nellie Miller; sons, Mike Miller, Chris (Lara) Miller, Rick (Tracy) Miller, and Eric (Traci) Miller; daughter, Melissa (Richard) West; daughter-in-law, Lori Hicks; grandchildren, Jami, Brooke, Abbey, Emili, Jayce, Jordan, Jaxson, Bella, Megan, Madison, Britney, Mackenzie, Noah, Quinn, Rhianna, Curtis, and Crystal; great-grandchildren, Jocie, Alaina, Gabriel, Keylie, Cole, Harper, Christian, and Corey; brother, Mark (Connie) Miller; and sisters, Nancy (Bob) Dunbar, and Linda (Jim) Kibby.
The family will receive visitors on Friday, March 4, 2016 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. A Life Celebration will follow visitation at noon. All will be held at Hendersonville Funeral Home, 353 E. Main Street, Hendersonville, TN 37075 hendersonvillefh.com (615) 824-3855
