Bob grew up in Pittsburgh, PA. As a child of the Depression he and his parents lived with his grandparents and worked in a family grocery store. He graduated from Peabody High School in 1944 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Served in WWII in the South Pacific including time in Guam. Upon honorable discharge, went to the University of Pittsburgh on the GI Bill and graduated with degree in Economics in three years. He worked his entire 40-year career for Associates Financial Corp in various positions and cities.

A lifelong United Methodist, he met Janet Best in high school at church and later married in 1951. Together, they had a joyous and loving marriage until her untimely passing in 1997. They raised three wonderful children together: Laura, Mark and Allan.

In 2000 he married Gail B. Woodall, his loving wife for nearly 20 years, who helped him through his final years.

He was a dedicated man of service to others including membership in Civitan and over 35 years membership in Rotary International. He served as board president of The Samaritan Center of Hendersonville and board president of Historic Rock Castle, also in Hendersonville.

He is survived by his wife, Gail Horner of Gallatin, TN, daughter, Laura (Bob) Winebarger of Lilburn, GA, son, Mark (Sue) Horner of Ooltewah, TN, son, Allan (Gretchen) Horner of Nashville, TN, and step-daughter, Sarah Woodall of Franklin, TN. His grandchildren include Bess Winebarger, Evan Winebarger, Graham Horner, Kate Horner, Nate Horner, Janet Ann Horner and Carly Horner, and one great granddaughter, Cadence Sparks.

The Horner family wishes to thank all the dedicated staff at NHC Sumner for their loving care during his time in the memory care unit the past two years.

A memorial service celebrating Bob's life will be held Sunday, December 29th at 2:00pm at First United Methodist Church in Hendersonville, TN. Visitation will be held beforehand from 12:30pm - 2:00pm.
