Robert Moon

March 29, 1943 — December 16, 2022

Gallatin

Robert Sterling Moon, age 79, passed away on December 16, 2022.  He was born on March 29, 1943 to the late Robert and Eunice Moon.  He grew up in Goodlettsville, Tennessee and then eventually moved to Hendersonville and Gallatin.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Missy Moon; son, Robby Moon (Teran); daughter, Wendy Chapman (Whit); grandchildren, Lily Moon, Jordan Moon, Caroline Chapman, Harrison Chapman, Anna Belle Chapman, and Jonathan Chapman.

He graduated high school in 1961 and was the President of his Senior Class and voted ‘Most Likely to Succeed’. Bob then received his master’s degree in aerospace and mechanical engineering from the University of Tennessee Knoxville.  He worked at Dupont as a consulting engineer for 31 years.

Bob was a dedicated follower of Jesus Christ.  This was demonstrated by the many ways he served the Lord during his 44 years as a member of First Baptist Church of Hendersonville.  Bob’s friendly, outgoing personality was displayed in his service as a deacon, greeter, and usher.  His steady, analytic, and diplomatic temperament was an asset as he served as chairman of the building committee and of the pastor search committee.  After his retirement from Dupont, Bob also served on the executive board for the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board.

Bob was an avid UT fan and had a love of flying.  He received his private pilot’s license, and during his retirement he enjoyed flying his Cessna 182 and traveling with Missy.  Bob was a disciplined man who balanced his life admirably by taking care of his physical health and his work, all the while prioritizing his commitment to the Lord.  Perhaps one of the things we loved most about Bob was his quick sense of humor and his easy delivery of a well-timed joke.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 30, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with the memorial service beginning at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Hendersonville.
