Ronald Eugene Eli

Ronald Eugene Eli, born on June 5, 1941 in Nashville, Tennessee, passed away on July 21, 2026. His life was characterized by deep kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith—a legacy that will be cherished by everyone whose lives he touched.

Ronald grew up in Nashville, TN, attending Dalewood Baptist Church, where he began nurturing the strong Christian faith he would carry throughout his entire life. Faith was at the core of everything he did, and he earnestly encouraged his children and grandchildren to develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Proudly serving his country, Ronald was a member of the United States Navy. He held his service close to his heart, often reminiscing about his time aboard the U.S.S. Snowden, where he worked both as a tender and took officers ashore while in port. Ronald’s dedication to his country made such a lasting impression that his oldest grandson chose to follow in his military footsteps, a testament to the inspiration Ronald provided his family.

Ronald found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved working outdoors, spending countless happy hours tending his yard, and taking on all sorts of “DIY” projects. An avid collector of tools, his handiwork filled his home and garden with a sense of pride and accomplishment. He adored every moment spent with his grandchildren and great-granddaughter, creating precious memories and embodying a loving presence they will always hold dear.

Travel held a special place in Ronald’s heart, especially trips to the Outer banks with his beloved wife, Sue Anna. Together, they shared many adventures, and Ronald particularly enjoyed surf-fishing during these getaways. His musical tastes reflected his appreciation for tradition, as he relished listening to Irish melodies and old-fashioned country music.

Ronald is survived by his devoted wife, Sue Anna Dowdy Eli; his loving daughter, Rhonda Michelle Malugin; and his cherished son, Craig Hastings Eli. His legacy lives on in his grandsons, Austin Cole Malugin (Kel Law), Logan Trace Malugin (Tori Malugin), Tyler Layne Malugin (Rachel Springer), and Carter Hastings Eli; granddaughters Rebecca Paige Malugin, and Emmalyn Faith Malugin; and his great-granddaughter, Cora Laine Malugin.

He is preceded in death by his father, Morlin Elmer Eli; his mother, Irene Hastings Eli; his aunts Elizabeth Babin, Christine Layne, and Louise Miller; his sister, Barbara Ann Fenton; and his brother, Donald Ray Eli.

Ronald Eugene Eli’s life was one of quiet strength, enduring faith, and steadfast love for family. His example has shaped and inspired generations, and his memory will be treasured always.
