Obituary

Stephen Shelby Singleton, born on March 25, 1950, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2026, leaving behind a legacy woven with music, laughter, and enduring love.

Stephen, known to friends and family as Steve, was a beloved husband, son, father, brother, uncle, and friend whose life was defined by both creativity and warmth. He is survived by his wife, Sandy Singleton; his son, Shelby Singleton III; his daughter, Scarlett Singleton; his mother, Margaret “Margie” Singleton Walton; step mother, Mary Singleton; his brothers, Sidney (Beth) Singleton and Stuart (Audrey) Singleton; his sister, Shana Hoy (Dennis); his nieces, Stefanie (Codey) Hardin, Sofia (Logan) Jones, and Emersyn Dyer; his nephews, Drake Dyer and Sterling Singleton; his uncle, John Singleton; great nephews, Graham, Luke, and Briggs; great niece, Sadie; and his faithful companion, Scooter. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He is predeceased by his father, Shelby Singleton Jr.

From a young age, Steve demonstrated an exceptional passion for music. At just 18, he embarked on what would become a long and storied career in the music industry. In his journey, Steve and his mother collaborated closely, building their own home recording studio where mother and son spent countless hours writing and recording songs together.

Steve went on to produce and record numerous acts over the years, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of many artists. His entrepreneurial spirit shone through with the co-ownership of OAS Music Group, a publishing company he established alongside his partner, Dane Bryant. Always dedicated and innovative, Steve later devoted many years to Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI) in their licensing division, a tenure that further cemented his reputation in the industry. After a fulfilling career, he retired from BMI in 2015, fondly remembered by colleagues and collaborators alike.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Steve was admired for his joyful and big personality. Known as a prankster with a great sense of humor, he brought light to every room and camaraderie to every occasion. His ability to bring a smile to the faces of those around him will be cherished as a hallmark of who he was.

Steve’s family and friends will remember him not only for his work ethic and talent but also for the laughter he inspired, the guidance he offered, and the steadfast support he provided throughout his life. His legacy will live on through the music he created, the memories he made, and the people fortunate enough to know him.

A visitation will be held on July 18, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Hendersonville Memory Gardens, Funeral Home & Cremation Center, located at 353 E Main St, Hendersonville, TN 37075. A Celebration of Life service will also take place at the same location, beginning at 2:00 PM, with his final resting place at Hendersonville Memory Gardens.

Stephen Shelby Singleton’s memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him and the many lives he touched with his generous spirit and love of music.
