Tara Oliver

August 4, 1966 — March 21, 2026

Tara Oliver, 59, of Portland, Tennessee, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on March 21, 2026.

Tara was born on August 4, 1966, at Hoag Memorial Hospital in Newport Beach, California. When Tara was five her family moved to the beautiful Hawaiian Islands, settling on Oahu where she spent her formative years and graduated from Kalani High School in 1984. It was there that her vibrant spirit and extraordinary musical talent began to shine. Known for her bright smile and magnetic presence, Tara became a beloved singer in her community. Tara’s voice carried not only melody, but a spirit that lifted and comforted those who heard it.

In 1991, Tara moved to Orange County, California, where she continued to pursue her passion for music and where she met the love of her life, Scott Oliver. She performed with the band Charlemagne in and around Hollywood and remained devoted to her craft as both a singer and songwriter. Her creative gifts extended beyond music — her poem “God Sings” was published in a United States Library of Congress poetry collection in 1993, a testament to her deep faith and artistic soul.

Tara built a life rooted in love, faith and family. She and Scott married on May 28, 1995, in a beautiful ceremony at Kahala Beach Park on Oahu. On April 12, 2001, they welcomed their beautiful daughter Selah Marie, at the very same hospital where Tara herself had been born — a meaningful reminder of God’s perfect timing and faithfulness across generations.

After moving to Hendersonville, Tennessee in 2006, Tara continued to use her God-given gifts to glorify Him. She wrote and performed music alongside her husband and became an anointed vocalist in multiple churches throughout Tennessee. She also shared her voice with the Nashville Soul Choir and most recently served as the lead vocalist for the band 2nd Sunset.

In 2025, Tara’s life-long dream of owning a farm come true. She and Scott made a new home in Portland, Tennessee where she spent her final year surrounded by the love of her family and countless friends, in the company of her beloved horses and dogs. More than anything, Tara loved deeply. She adored her husband, treasured her daughter, and found immeasurable joy in her three grandchildren, who were her heart. Tara was a radiant light in the lives of all who knew her. She was warm, loving, and full of joy — someone who never met a stranger and could light up any room with her presence. Her laughter was infectious, her heart was generous, and her love for her family was boundless.

Tara had a special love for all of God’s creation and for riding her horses with her family and friends. She also found beauty in collecting vintage and fine jewelry — small reflections of the elegance and artistry she carried within her.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 33 years, Scott Oliver of Portland, Tennessee; her daughter Selah Marie Oliver Stultz and son-in-law Kory Stultz; her beloved grandchildren Lana, Weston, and Violet Stultz; her sisters Christy Reynolds and Carol Beason; her brothers Andy Naftel and Matt Hinckley; her nephew Devon; and her nieces Julia, Kelsey, Alicea and Sophia. She was preceded in death by her mother Ruth Christy; her fathers Gary “Skip” Naftel and Mitch Duran; and her brother Marty Naftel.

Though our hearts grieve her absence, we rejoice in the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ. Tara’s voice, which so often lifted others in worship, is now lifted in perfect praise before her Savior. Her legacy of faith, family, love, and music will continue to echo in the hearts of all who knew her, until we meet again.

“Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Lord.” — Matthew 25:23
