Tommy Jones

Thomas Walter (Tom) Jones, age 87 of Hendersonville passed way at home surrounded by family, on March 14, 2026, after a long illness. Tom was born on September 23, 1938, in Old Hickory, Tennessee. He grew up there and graduated from DuPont High School in 1956, where he played football, baseball, and track. He then served in the U.S. Army as a military policeman and a weapons instructor. Tom worked for DuPont from 1962 until his early retirement in 1996.

Tom and his wife, Mary, traveled extensively, visiting all fifty states, dozens of foreign countries, and making several cruises, while his health would allow them to travel. Tom was an avid golfer and a 25-year member of the Tennessee Traveling Senior Golf Association. He was proud of the fact that he was finally able to shoot below his age before he had to give up playing at the age of 83. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading and anything the University of Tennessee Volunteers! He enjoyed participating in or watching any sport and supporting his grandchildren and great grandchildren in all their activities.

Tom was the son of the late Wardie Walter Jones and Naomi Ruth Donegan Jones. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Joseph Glen, James Doyle and Abner Douglas, and sisters, Nettie Mae Worrell, Hazel Miller, Audrey Gourley, Louise Deloach, Annette Jones and Jewell Duke.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary Jones, daughters Terri (Herschell) Morrisette, and Jennifer Buttrey of Mt. Juliet and Tracy (Chris) Koumiss of Gallatin and son David (Debbie) Martin of Foristell, Missouri, and sister Reba (Eugene) Hannah of White House.

He was very proud of his ten grandchildren, Jamie Farough, Justin and Josh Buttrey, Amber Hunter, Sara (Josh) Sutherland, Stephanie (Cody) Dowler, and Samantha (Colton) Masters, Katie and Cameron Koumiss, and Presley Ogaz, and his nine great-grandkids, Lacie Urich, Lindie Farough, Liam and Evan Hunter, Makynzie, Luca, Ivy and Benjamin Dowler, and Kennedy Masters.

He was a faithful member of Hendersonville First Baptist Church since 2007.
