Wade Hampton Hickam, Sr.
Hendersonville, TN – Wade Hampton Hickam, Sr. of Hendersonville, TN passed away peacefully on November 1, 2023. Wade was born in Washington, D.C., the son of Benjamin Franklin Hickam and Helen Coombs Hickam. Wade was raised in Waynesboro, VA where he graduated high school.
Wade received his Bachelor degree from Virginia Commonwealth University(VCU) and went on to work for Dupont Corporation for 38 years in a sales capacity before retiring and moving to Sunset Beach, NC with his wife Nora, with whom he was married to for 63 years. For sixteen (16) years of his DuPont career, Wade and Nora were Nascar Ambassadors representing Dupont and working hand in hand with Hendrick Motorsports and Jeff Gordon.
During his retirement Wade enjoyed spending quality time with his growing family as well as fishing from the Sunset Beach pier and the camaraderie and social interaction that came with it. He never met a stranger.
While in Sunset Beach, Wade and Nora were members of the Beulah Baptist Church. After moving to Hendersonville, TN in 2022 to be closer to the immediate family, they became members of Indian Lake Peninsula Church.
In addition to his parents, Wade was preceded in death by his sister, Catherine Prout McKinnon
Wade is survived by his loving family, wife Nora Jones Hickam, daughter Sondra(Sondie) Maria McCullough(Bill), sons Wade Hampton Hickam, Jr.(Karen) and David Michael Hickam(Sherri), ten(10) grandchildren Tyler McCullough(Kristen), Leslie Agassi(Armond), Dr. Sarah Hickam(Mat), Laura Hickam, Dr. Reid McCullough(Ariana), Victoria Hickam, Paige Hickam, Haley Hickam, Ashton Hickam, Kiley Hickam, four(4) great grandchildren Remi, Finn and Poppy Agassi as well as Hampton McCullough. Wade is also survived by his sisters Margy Stanford and Benji O’Connell, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held in Waynesboro, VA early in 2024 to lay Wade’s ashes to rest. In addition, a special celebration will be held in Sunset Beach, North Carolina during the family’s 50+ year annual vacation with our loving family friends from West Virginia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Samaritan’s Purse.
