Willie Jean Spurlock, 89, passed away on July 20, 2026, after a courageous battle with dementia. Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, she spent most of her life in Middle Tennessee, including more than 50 years in Hendersonville.
Willie Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Icy Overby Tomlinson and Bill Tomlinson, and her sister, Cleo Queensen. She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Tommy Spurlock; her children, Jean Robertson (Burton), Jamie Spurlock (Rhonda), and Pam (John); her grandchildren, Michelle Pierce, Carson Spurlock, Kaylee Spurlock, Amanda Thompson, Alex Nardi, and Will Nardi; her great-grandchildren, Maddox Thompson and Jackson Pierce; and her beloved rescue dog, Bella.
Willie Jean attended First Baptist Church Hendersonville, she embraced life and formed many lasting friendships. She graduated from East High School, stayed close with many classmates, and treasured their reunions. After a long career at Western Electric, she remained connected with lifelong friends and participated in various groups filled with laughter and memorable times. Willie Jean and Tommy also enjoyed being on the water and spent many happy hours on their boat. She loved gathering with family and friends to play games, share meals—especially sweets—dance, and bring smiles to those around her.
Visitation will be held Thursday July 23rd from 4-8pm and Friday July 24th from 11am-12pm at Hendersonville Memory Gardens, with the service to follow on Friday July 24th at 12:00pm. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Nashville, with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
A special thank you to Vitality Hendersonville and Gentiva Hospice for providing compassionate and loving care to Willie Jean. Your kindness brought immense comfort to her, and our entire family. We greatly appreciate you all!
Willie Jean was unforgettable and made friends wherever she went. She will be remembered for her love of life, distinctive personality, and the joy she brought to many. She will be deeply missed.
