George W. Futrell, age 91 passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2022. George was born on November 4, 1931, in Hymon, Kentucky to Jay B. and Fay (Kennerly) Futrell.
George had a true “green thumb”, he was masterful at vegetable gardening and raising flowers. He could stick anything in the ground and make it grow. More than anything, he enjoyed seeing God’s hand in taking a simple seed, placing it in the ground, and watching it grow to see it produce food and flowers. He loved the beautiful colors of all plants and flowers. He loved roses. He nurtured his rose gardens with great skill and knowledge. George took great pleasure in giving the fruits of his labor to friends, family, and neighbors. He was kind and generous to everyone he met throughout his life.
By trade, George was an auto body repair specialist and auto painter. His reputation was unparalleled throughout his career. His skill level and expertise was in demand at all of the auto dealerships and body shops throughout the Nashville area. His deep belief in doing the best job, to the point of perfection, enabled him to enjoy the reputation as a master body work specialist and painter.
George loved his family especially his wife of 69 years, Wanda. He took great pride in his children, Orvis and Kim. He instilled in them a belief that they could accomplish anything they set their minds on and then gave them guidance, love, and encouragement as they achieved their dreams. He loved his daughter-in-law, Sandra, and his son-in-law, Rickey, as if they were his own children and they loved him equally in return. He loved his granddaughters, their spouses, and great-grandchildren with all of his heart. They all have special memories of time spent with their beloved “Papa”.
We will miss your presence dad (Papa) but you will forever live on in our hearts and memories. Enjoy the peace and beauty of heaven as Jesus welcomes you home and you are reunited with mom (granny) and all who have preceded you to the Kingdom of Heaven.
George is preceded in death by his loving wife, Wanda; his parents; siblings Effie Hurt, Cottlan Futrell, Estelle Hall, Jay Futrell, Jr., Clorice Sanders, and Betty Bloodworth. He is survived by his son Orvis (Sandra) Futrell and daughter Kim (Rickey) Miles; grandchildren Keyana, Candy (James), and Cori (Mark). In addition, he is survived by his great-grandchildren Sam, Savannah (John), Emma, and Lanie; sister Brenda York and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
