John Vigna

April 22, 1943 — July 17, 2022

John Frank Vigna went home to Heaven on July 17, 2022 at the age of seventy-nine. He died at home after a lengthy illness. He was born in Shamokin PA to missionary parents. John was preceded in death by his parents James and Rhoda Vigna, his brothers Samuel Vigna and Chester Vigna, and his sister Miriam Vigna. He is survived by his loving wife Katherine Boswell Vigna and by his children: Katherine Renee Vigna, Victoria Woytach, and Daniel Vigna, and by his son in law Robert Woytach. He is also survived by his sister Eleanor Anetsky and her husband Alan Anetsky, by granddaughters Elizabeth Woytach and Katherine Woytach, by his grandson in law Will Scroggins and by many nieces and nephews.

At the age of six John and his two brothers and two sisters moved to Watsonville, CA to attend Monte Vista Christian School. They were boarders there for most of their school years. John attended Bethany Bible College in Santa Cruz, CA and LeTourneau University in Longview, TX where he received his A.S. degree. He also received his Small Aircraft Mechanic’s certificate.

John settled in Seaside, CA as he began working at the Monterey, CA airport. He made the Seaside First Assembly of God his home church. There he met Katherine Boswell who would three years later become his bride. They found they had the exact same birthday and that they had the same passion to serve God and others. Their three children were born there and every member of the family became an active member in their church and in their neighborhood.

John served on the church board and the Monterey Bay Christian School Board, sang in the choir, helped with the youth program and was the church’s worship leader. He also sang at other churches, encouraging them with his songs. He was always faithful to help wherever needed. For fifteen years he provided Sunday School time for the patients at the Monterey Convalescent Hospital. He recorded two albums of hymns and other spiritual songs. He moved to Hendersonville where he enjoyed most of his senior years. He enjoyed fellowship in his home with neighbors, church family and other family members and greatly missed this when he became ill, so he embraced caregivers as friends.
