January 31, 1951 — June 25, 2021

Cottontown, Tennessee

Lloyd Aaron “Skip” Jackson, III passed away June 25, 2021 at the age of 70, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy and share his abundant stories, laughter and memories.

Skip had immense love and knowledge of western swing and traditional country music as well as big band. He spent 22 years in the country music business as a steel guitar player and was honored to play with artists such as Willie Nelson, Faron Young, Earnest Tubb and The Kendalls and greatly enjoyed the three seasons he spent at Opryland USA in the cast of Country Music USA.

He later decided to pursue photography, a passion which began in junior high school.  He received his Certificate of Photography from Nashville State Technical Institute and eventually left the road to open a studio in Nashville called “Downtown Photo”.

He soon discovered a newfound love for teaching when he became an instructor at Nossi College of Art, as well as an adjunct faculty member of Nashville State Community College.  He went on to receive his Associates degree of Occupational Studies in Commercial Digital Photography. Skip joined the faculty full-time at Nashville State in 2000 until his retirement in 2017; although he continued as an adjunct instructor through the spring of 2020. Skip is credited with helping create the digital photography and lighting curriculum that Nashville State continues to use today.  He loved his students and motivated them to persevere in their studies and career.  For those that knew Skip knew he had a passion for light.

A long-time member of the Professional Photographers of America (PPA) and the Tennessee Professional Photographers Association (TNPPA), where he has served on the board of directors and current past president, as well as a liaison for the national organization of Certified Professional Photographers. During his time with these esteemed organizations, he conducted workshops and headed elite panels at state and national photography events. Earlier this spring, Skip Jackson was presented with one of the highest honors achievable by an American photographer when he was recognized by the Professional Photographers of America and presented the National Award for Meritorious Contributions to Professional Photography.

Skip leaves his wife of 44 years, Lillian Pamela Jackson, Cottontown TN, daughter, Jessica Jackson, White House TN; son, Dustin (Stephanie) Headrick, Cottontown TN; mother, Jessie Jackson, White House TN; and six grandchildren, Amelia (Caleb) Ketring, Isabella Headrick, Mila Headrick, Michael Headrick, Lila Headrick and Luke Headrick.  He was looking forward to the birth of his first great-grandchild, Bridger Michael Ketring.

Preceded in death by his father, Lloyd Aaron Jackson, Jr.; brother, Theron Van Jackson; half brother, Darrell G. Jackson; and a son, Jackie Shane Jackson.
