December 13, 1939 - March 30, 2020

Mary Clouse, 80, of Gallatin, TN passed away on Monday, March 30, 2020. She was born on December 13, 1939 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Buckley and Helen (Waishnora) Barlow. Mary completed her undergraduate degree at Ohio State University and earned a master's degree from Tennessee State University.

Mary was widowed at the age of 39 after the passing of her husband, Franklin D. Clouse. She worked tirelessly to provide and raise her four young children. Her belief in education led her to teach in various schools, continue her education and retire from Beech High School, Gallatin, TN in 1999 as the first female Principal in Sumner County.

Being the quintessential matriarch, mentor and friend, Mary loved hosting family holidays, lunching with her retired teachers on a monthly basis and surprising friends and family with some of her baked goods.

She is survived by her son, Michael Franklin (Lisa) Clouse, Franklin, TN; daughter, Kathleen (Jeff) Jones, Joelton, TN; son, Timothy Andrew (Robin) Clouse, Hendersonville, TN; grandchildren David (Kailin) Jones, Rachel Hendrix, Christopher (Cara) Jones, Benjamin (Janessa) Hendrix, Steven (Nikki) Jones, Matthew Clouse and Diana Clouse; and four great grandchildren with another one on the way. In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was also preceded in death by her daughter, Helenmary (Mike) Hendrix.

A private family visitation will be held on Saturday, April 4 at Hendersonville Funeral Home with a private burial at the National Cemetery, Madison, TN on Monday, April 6. A Funeral Mass will be held at a later date.

Friends and former students of Mary's are encouraged to gather in the Beech High School parking lot on Monday, April 6 at 10am as her processional from the funeral home to the cemetery will pass through the lot. Due to the virus risk, please remain in your vehicle. You may sound your horn, wave, and even place a sign on your windshield honoring Mary.

As an avid reader, in lieu of flowers, Mary requested memorial books be donated to the Beech High School Media Center.
